A former department store turned into a hotel - the Stafa building is home to Ruby Marie, in the middle of the 7th district, the heart of Vienna's creative scene. The interior and design of the hotel reflects the history of the building.
The "Mariahilfer Zentralpalast" was opened 1911 as a department store. During the first World War, it was bought by the "Staatsangestellten-Fürsorgeanstalt" (Sta-Fa), hence the unusual nickname of the building "Stafa".
During the 1920s, the Stafa became a shopping and cinema palace. During the years, the building was constantly renovated, modernized and its purpose changed.
The Stafa got its modern facade in 2015 with a further renovation, emphasizing the relief structures of Anton Hanak. End of 2015 Ruby Marie moved in. The building was additionally awarded the LEED certificate, which concentrates on environmentally responsible building and efficient usage of resources.

Check out what’s playing in our Movie Lounge on the 4th floor or what’s happening at the Event Space on the ground floor – a space where regular pop-up stores and vernissages take place. Do something for your inner chi, grab a yoga mat and go to the yoga room on the 4th floor. If you want to challenge yourself harder, our friends at Körperstadt place their gym at disposal. Socialize a bit at the bar on the 5th floor, which is open 24/7 for hotel guests and discover all the little vintage details that reflect the department store history of the building. Explore our Rooftop Garden over Vienna's rooftops. Enjoy your breakfast in the open, relax and drink a coffee during the day or clink your cocktail glasses during sunset.
Colourful chairs with vintage tables, cozy Fatboys with small wine cases and several sunbeds offer loads of possibilities to enjoy the good weather on the rooftop terrace. A variety of plants and playful light chains create a snug garden atmosphere for a great sundowner.
The Rooftop Garden is open daily until 10 pm during nice weather.
HOW TO GET TO HERE
BY FOOT
From Westbahnhof to our hotel is about a 5 minute walk. Once at the station Westbahnhof, turn into Mariahilfer Straße and walk another 160 metres until you get to Kaiserstraße. The hotel is located on the left side.
BY TRAIN
Arriving by train at Westbahnhof means you are very close. From there it is only a 5 minute walk to Ruby Marie. Take the exit "Mariahilfer Straße". Those coming from direction Munich can get out at Meidling train station and take the U6 until Westbahnhof. If you arrive at Hauptbahnhof, don’t worry, it is very near as well. Just take the subway U1 to Stephansplatz and change to U3 to Zieglergasse
